Starting Plant Based
When first trying to go plant based, figuring out what to eat can be a bit of confusion. Am I getting the right nutrients? What vegetables are even out there? Can I afford it? Mindset Shift - when trying to become more plant based (or really anything) key mindset shifts play a paramount role to long term success.
Don’t sweat failure. If you are trying to go plant based and keep falling off the meal plan routine, don’t sweat it! The best way to stick to a process is to make it enjoyable and beating yourself up is definitely not fun activity. See if you can scale back your goals, make things easier, or more fun maybe a strict meal plan isn’t your thing. Small consistent habits will add up.
Dig deep. What’s your why for going plant based. Maybe it’s to have more energy, better the environment, animal rights, all of the above. Whatever the reason is hold it close to you. You could even consider writing it down and hanging it up.
Start small. Consistency is the key, not perfection. If you can keep a small habit or goal up consistently, you are compounding the benefits.
“I get to have.” Word choices are so incredibly powerful. Empowering and uplifting words will make it more likely you will stick with a habit. Instead of focusing on foods you can’t have - focus on all the foods you can have. No food is bad or good and no food is strictly off limits. By incorporating foods you get to eat, overtime you’ll naturally gravitate to them.
Take a break. Life is meant to be enjoyed plant based eating doesn’t have to be a stressful process. If you are overwhelmed, go for a walk, hang out with a friend, partake in your favorite hobby.
Knowledge, knowledge, knowledge. The more we know or understand something - the easier it becomes for us to stick with something. Learn about how exactly your food choices are bettering the environment or how exactly your body will have more energy. Learn from others how they implement tools and techniques to make the process easier and more fun.
